I am a writer based in Assynt, in the north-west highlands of Scotland. My work includes poetry, fiction and non-fiction and is mostly concerned with trees, bears and the sea. Yet people intrigue me, the way our minds work, how our relationships shape us and how we express ourselves in words, music and images.
My books include:
- four collections of poetry: letting light in, Castings, A-B-Tree and Why the Sky is Far Away;
- an anthology of tree poems, Into the Forest;
- a non-fiction book, Paper Trails - from trees to trash, the true cost of paper
- five novels - The Last Bear; Bear Witness, The Walrus Mutterer, The Amber Seeker and The Lyre Dancers.
I love sharing my sense of wonder at the natural world with other people, and encouraging others to express themselves. I teach creative writing and literature at the University of the Highlands and Islands. So if you want me to come and lead a walk in the woods or along the shore or run a writing session or if you want to treat yourself to a one-to-one mentoring session to strengthen your witing, please get in touch.
If you'd like to be informed, occasionally, about my books and special offers, please sign up to my email list using the button at the top of this page or contact me. All subscribers get access to free stuff - booklets or stories etc. I will never share your information with anyone else.
